winks cottage

The brief was to gently refresh this 18th century cottage on a tight budget, prioritising quality of finish on a few key features initially with a 'drip-feed' plan to follow for the year ahead, as and when the budget would increase. So a long-term builders schedule was drawn up - the existing kitchen was immediately modified by removing the out-dated detailing but maintaining the carcass, fitting a reclaimed Iroko worktop, bespoke Yew shelving and Oak kick-boards.  Throughout the rest of the house original Oak beams, skirting and parquet floors were all stripped back and oiled and a new paint and lighting scheme applied.  The original log fire was eventually uncovered and re-instated and the entrance hall was re-configured to incorporate an elegant cloak room.  Currently the owner is working on an antique stair runner, and a new bathroom!  A real joy of a project to help get off the ground..
